I am PASSIONATE about charity work. Making a difference in someone's life is so fulfilling for me. This led to the introduction of 4Charity; an initiative that is focused on fundraising for charity purposes. Where possible we advocate for development oriented charity (not sure if there is anything like that), but it's charity that seeks not only to provide and fund raise, but also invests in the development of the beneficiary so that they become independent and self -reliant.
After 13 years in the NGO sector a finance professional, I realised that despite receiving huge sums of money in donations some communities, and individuals still expected more almost as if it was a right. Do not get me wrong, where a person has immediate needs then lets step in, but where there is room for sustainable interventions I will always go for the sustainable ones. If we don't have that approach beneficiaries are in danger of becoming dependant on the assistance.
Before I get all "preachy" and weird, I must hasten to say that in an effort to offer sustainable assistance my hubby (husband) and I have opted to get into business to be able to have continuity. This will enable us to cushion ourselves from being totally reliant on donors, creating more stability in all our interventions. So brace yourself for some amazing ways to get involved in charity work.
My role is to be a conduit of the funds raised or gifts donated for the beneficiary, meaning I have no plans of jeopardising the programs, sustainability is the name of the game.
